The artificial intelligence chatbot ChatGPT has dominated the internet since its introduction in December 2022. Instantaneously, dating app users began using the service to send messages to matches, so it's not surprising that dating apps themselves are following suit.
OkCupid has begun experimenting with ChatGPT-generated matching questions for users. Michael Kaye, the worldwide head of communications for the app, asked ChatGPT what questions to ask on a dating app and what questions to ask when on a date.
Are you an extrovert or an introvert?
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
What is your preferred weekend activity?
What do you value most in a partner?
How do you know whether a relationship is ready for the next step?
How do you balance your needs in a relationship with those of your partner?

As it turns out, the majority of respondents were introverts, night owls, and weekend homebodies. Over half of respondents appreciate trust in a partner the most, and they rely on their intuition to take their relationship to the next level. Daters achieve a balance between their wants and those of their partners by discussing their requirements, scheduling time for themselves, and engaging in social activities without their partners.
"Daters who think ChatGPT is a lifesaver receive nearly 40 percent more Matches on OkCupid than those who think it's too big brother," Kaye told Mashable. "Thus, we decided to use ChatGPT to design our famed in-app matching questions that power our algorithm." "The chatbot from OpenAI penned a half-dozen questions for us, ranging from what you value most in a mate to how you may balance your wants with those of your partner in a relationship, and daters adore these new questions."
The questions have been answered over 125,000 times and counting, with Generation Z undoubtedly in the lead. 31% of Gen Z daters on OkCupid do not believe that utilizing AI to construct a profile or communicate with people on dating apps is a breach of trust.
Despite this, OkCupid discovered that 52% of respondents find the use of AI on profile photographs to be unattractive, while only 6% find it to be attractive, with 43% undecided. Forty-seven percent of respondents were hesitant if they would continue dating someone who admitted to first contacting via an AI bot. 34% of respondents stated they would not continue the relationship, while 18% said they would.
ChatGPT is just a few months old, but it has already altered the dating habits of certain people. As AI evolves, our dating lives will undoubtedly change as well.
